Hope Desire II is Inspired by the atmospheric effects of bush fire smoke in the Great Southern.
I had been wanting to try a different technique in building up this image after finishing the original Hope Desire in 2016. For this painting, I began with a tonal underpainting and worked it up in a series of coloured glazes.
This painting offers a contemporary view of the rural Australian landscape that is ominous, changeable and beautiful.
