Artwork Description

Oil on linen, ready to hang.

Signed on the front.

This painting forms part of the "Looking In" series . In this series I am introducing figures gazing into the colourful rooms, filled with patterns, flowers and other objects. The two figures here are inspired by the paintings of the wonderful French painter Paul Gauguin. He was a master of colour: using colour in an experimental way, introducing greens and blues to flesh tones.

In this work there are 7 plates hanging on a wall covered in gum tree leaves. There is a kookaburra, two magpies, a sulphur crested cockatoo, three regent honeyeaters and a yellow tailed black cockatoo.A bright golden dress patterned in dark navy blue stand on a round rug, patterned in reds and blues. To the left there is a room divider where a woman sits on a wooden chair, resembling a cover of a dress pattern. In the bottom left corner a magpie is keeping an eye on things and to the right of the work you can see a cut off piece of Harpers fashion magazine.
