The Lilac crested roller, or "Troupand" in Afrikaans, is one of my favourite African birds. Here they are perched on a staircase in an imaginary summer house - a house with a garden filled with proteas (native to South Africa) , Waratahs (native to Australia) and pink magnolias. I chose colours that are cool, soothing, yet joyful and light. It is a piece that bring summer right into your home.

In this work there are 7 plates hanging on a wall covered in gum tree leaves. There is a kookaburra, two magpies, a sulphur crested cockatoo, three regent honeyeaters and a yellow tailed black cockatoo.A bright golden dress patterned in dark navy blue stand on a round rug, patterned in reds and blues. To the left there is a room divider where a woman sits on a wooden chair, resembling a cover of a dress pattern. In the bottom left corner a magpie is keeping an eye on things and to the right of the work you can see a cut off piece of Harpers fashion magazine.
