This painting is part of an ongoing series motivated by observations of the remnant bushland reserve of Toohey Forest, south of Brisbane. The ecology of such places is in constant change and under many and various pressures. They exist as islands in the urban landscape. Shown in this picture is an embankment created by leveling the ground for roadworks. These cutaways are interesting habitats in themselves, housing lizards and nesting birds - perhaps giving them some shelter from predators such as foxes and cats.
