Artwork Description

Mixed Media on wood, ready to hang.

Signed on the front.

Scrimshaw is the engraving on bone or ivory. Australia’s whaling dates back to 1791 and sailors on whalers carved whale teeth to pass time. The bones were burned as fuel so I have sketched in charcoal to mark the history.

A whaling vessel in full sail loosely sketched in charcoal on a ‘tooth’painted in oils. Painted on board and framed with salvaged wood.
