Artwork Description

Oil on canvas, stretched and ready to hang.

Signed on the back.

This painting is inspired by playing cards and my fascination with Alice in Wonderland. The earliest record of playing cards in Europe dates back to 1377 and the Queen card was introduced not long after that. As always, the Queen comes behind the King in value when playing cards. However, in these modern times of equal rights, both the King and the Queen are placed on the same card, representing them as equal value. Therefore this painting can be hung either way, with the King upside-down or the Queen upside-down.
