Artwork Description

Mixed Media on canvas, stretched and ready to hang.

Signed on the front.

This piece addresses the absolute shame of the Texan government and the lack of autonomy for women to choose what is best for their bodies. All that has been fought for and hard-won through feminism has been torn down because of patriarchal beliefs that women are mere possessions and unable to think for themselves.
I seriously cannot believe that Texas has put feminism back decades. Senate Bill 8, which bans abortions from around six weeks from the woman's last menstrual period, came into effect on September 1st. Thousands of women across Texas have taken to the streets in protest.
In this piece, I have painted a woman using acrylic paint in many skin colours to represent all women, as well as printed photographs I have taken of flowers that bloom from the womb. These elements are collaged onto the female figure, and the words ‘Fertile Ground - Squatters will be evicted at owners DISCRETION.’
The title also represents fertility in body and mind, so I thought it apt!
