Sometimes I just want to capture the essence of a scene without much detail. I try and hone right in on one aspect that really speaks to me and that's what I paint. This time it was the colour of the water so I cropped the sky right out and simply focussed on the blues and aquas. I used my palette knife to add in a few rocks for a contrast of texture against the calm water and then a few flicks for some seagulls and seaweed to add a sense of scale.
