This was an experimental piece. I wanted to play with plain old oil pastels - actually my kids' crayons - and the way that water based paints resist the oil based pigments. The white details in this juvenile magpie are crayon, and the deeper colours watercolour applied over the top. I've always loved Magpies since hand-feeding a troupe of them as a child, and (magically) I have never been swooped!
