Anguish is a painting about the female sexuality – about its allure, its ambivalence, its beauty, its grotesqueness and its representation. I have chosen a young female nude, her arms outstretched and her face gazing upward as if caught halfway through a thought, resplendent in her sexuality, very aware of her form but also unmistakably innocent – seemingly two disparate states and yet, intertwined and inseparable.
