There is something comforting in the familiar. You will notice in my flower series for “Spring In My Step” I have incorporated everyday favourites from Happy Little Vegemites to Baked Beans Means Farts. If I could re-pack my suitcase of the time when I came over to Australia I would pack less clothes and shoes...yes I can hardly believe I said less shoes myself but it’s true. I would fill my suitcase with comforts like my favourite CDs (you can only get Afrikaans music artists on iTunes here in Australia and it’s just not the same without a cover). Physically flipping through the CDs and taking it out of the cover and putting it into the CD player is all part of setting that mood. Back in the day family photo albums (proof that your parents too were victims of fashion) when everything wasn’t digital and stored on your hard drive. Trinket boxes that my nanna gifted me... a special flower vase gifted from a dear friend, you know the little things... familiar things... comfort things... I am a gatherer and I feel comforted being surrounded by my gatherings lol! I hope that wherever these comfort paintings of mine end up, that they might bring forth comfort.
