A few years back we were touring the Flinders Rangers in South Australia and were literally driving along in the middle of nowhere heading towards the Birdsville Track. We hadn't seen another soul for ages and were imagining we were suddenly in the middle of one of those end of the world movies where the heroes find they are the only ones left, yes folks that would mean we were the heroes! Out of nowhere a shimmer in the heat haze in the middle of the road way up ahead had us captivated, "what the heck is that, a roo"? As we slowly drew closer the image we were seeing grew weirder and weirder, that doesn't look like an animal, WHAT IS THAT??
Those of you who have been lucky enough to visit the Flinders would know that the plains are very flat and seem to go on forever, every so often the road will dip and cross a dry creek bed. After driving miles and miles, with only roos and emus for company, it was at one of these dry creek beds that we caught up with our apparition. I'll be buggered, it was an old bloke peddling along on a bike pulling a small trailer and just as he crossed the creek bed, plop he went falling off his bike and sprawling into the road in front of us! We were shocked and obviously so was he, jumping up quickly, hopping back on his bike and peddling off before we could even ask him "you right mate"? He was obviously very embarrassed that he had managed to come a gutser in front of the only car he had seen that day.
The point of this story, we have no idea where the old bloke was coming from or where he was heading as we were somewhere out past the black stump but we do reckon he could possibly live in this little caravan, in the middle of nowhere, as he had definitely Gone Bush.
