Watercolour Paint on canvas
Signed on the front.
Ancient Greeks believed that the flesh of the peafowl did not decay after death, and so it became a symbol of immortality. This symbolism was adopted by early Christianity, and thus many early Christian paintings and mosaics show the peacock.
In Greco-Roman mythology the Peacock tail has the "eyes" of the stars and in Hinduism, the Peacock is associated with Lakshmi who represents patience, kindness and luck.
However whenever I see a peacock I'm reminded by the words of Jennie Erdal
"One day you're a peacock...
the next you are a feather duster"
from one extreme to the other... so to me the peacock means Carpe Diem - Seize The Day!
