Aussies pride themselves in the fact that Australia is not for the faint hearted, with danger looming around every corner whether it be dropbears, redbacks, brown snakes or crocodiles. I love their light hearted humour and “She’ll Be Right Mate” attitude. And for True Blue Aussies spring means swooping season... So naturally I was downright appalled to read that some softy complained about a maggie for swooping. So much so that this charismatic creature with high intelligence that was just protecting its young was shot, WHAT!!! I don’t usually pop my head up as I don’t like confrontation but this really disgusted me.
But I don’t want you to leave here all doom and gloom, so here is a beautiful quote from Colin Thiele, Magpie Island.
“A magpie can be happy or sad: sometimes so happy that he sits on a high, high gum tree and rolls the sunrise around in his throat like beads of pink sunlight; and sometimes so sad that you would expect the tears to drip off his beak.”
