I love how the simplicity of this piece allows the movement and the vibrancies of the watercolour to shine — something that's often lost with more detailed watercolour work. I painted this after a long coastal holiday with family — obsessed by the many blues, indigoes, greys and greens of the sea.
I wanted to get a really strong contrast between the blue and the horizon so the painting has been cut out and placed on white heavily textured watercolour paper; creating a modern collage look.
A smallish artwork at a4, this would look brilliant in a cluster with other sea-themed or blue/green/monochrome toned prints or paintings. Or let it hang perfectly alone — the more you stare at it, the more you see.
