"Poinciania Place" is an acrylic painting, its texture and its depth I've obtained by the use of a grey scale from white to almost black. This work was a challenge to me, my usual medium is paint and collage. To to do a straight painting with very little collage and still create interest in the bark of the tree, the tin roof, and those dry brittle grasses was a test. The cottage was photographed many years ago. I love old black and white photo's unlike today where we pull out our phone and snap away, here the author of old snaps took time in telling a story. Then waited for days for the photo's development to see if the story they wanted was true and accurate. Just as working on this painting took time. I worked on this painting to achieve a true representation of the photograph. One that tells a story that the artist wanted to portray in his photograph. The flickering of light through the trees illuminates the cottage and its rough bush garden. Pride of place in that garden a beautiful Poinciania.
