What is a nautilus? It's a marine animal that comes from the cephalopod (comes from the Greek words head and legs) family, so it is similar to an octopus or squid, only it grows in a hard shell. It has a beak to help it eat crunchy crustaceans and it is also a scavenger. According to fossil records, animals similar to the nautilus have existed for about 500 million years! Apparently their numbers are in decline because they are overfished for their beautiful shell shape and the inner layer of their shell can be used as a pearl substitute in jewellery. I hope people can appreciate this magnificent creature through my artwork xx
