Artwork Description

This is an ink and acrylic painting of Australian coastal Tea Trees. I really like the expressive nature of wind-swept tea trees. The gnarly twisted branches and bark is captures the rawness of the Australian landscape.

I draw my inspiration from Japanese ink and brush paintings as well as Australian artists Brett Whitley and the contemporary painter Joshua Yeldman.

My work explores the simplification and interpretation of various forms predominately being the natural environment. With an emphasis on colour, pattern and light the painted works explore the notion of a fusion between representation and abstraction.

I'm interested in the way colour influence our emotions and internal states. There is a therapeutic aspect to art making which is just as important as the act of looking at art.
