This painting is a reimagining of one of the many Big Things that dot the Australian landscape - in this case the Big Crab.
Old-school tourist attractions such as Big Things and family-run dolphin pools are becoming emblems of the past. Heritage listing or repurposing mark these things out as being of another time, even if they continue to function today. The viewer is asked to consider how the qualities that define these places โtheir size, or their promise to commune with nature on some level โ would be defined as mythic in any other context.
