Akari in Japanese means light, illumination, and brightness. I painted Akari as an offering of a space for a moment of connection, a liminal place. My process involves the building of layers of texture, drips, welcomed mistakes and the organic travelling of paint. This process builds the story of a complex life lived, the scars, the learnings, the conversations and where the light has reached. I’m always contemplating the cyclic nature of experience and reflection, celebrating the discarded remnants that have been part of the story along the way. Akari expresses my optimism, my passion for humanity, my love for learning and my continual search for expression that functions on a deeper, universal level.
