Having never come across this fruit before I was compelled to paint them. Medlars had their hey-day back in the 1600’s. Although charming in a bowl, this mysterious little fruit requires patience if being used in the kitchen. Before cooking they must go through a process called ‘bletting’, which pretty much means being left in a cool, dry place to grow soft and mushy. As for recipes…I’ll leave that to the curious!
