The Hakea is a flowering shrub known as the 'hakea pin cushion' and endemic only to Western Australia.
This is the mini companion piece to 'Hakea Pincushion At Dusk'.
This mini version was the completed with just the gold leaves and a smaller version which focuses on the close up of these amazing flowers.
The first time I saw the Hakea Pincushion was at dusk when the sun was setting.
I could not believe my eyes when seeing this flower that was a perfect ball with these stems or pins in such beautiful pastel pinks.
They were nestled in the tree twinkling in the twilight half light.
Dancing like decorations in the evening gentle breeze.
They were and are like no other flower I have ever seen.
So perfect in their architectural construction of a ball with spikes jetting from it.
I have tried to capture these flowers and their buds in the setting sun.
The shrubbery and foliage almost concealing them as the sun was going down.
Capturing that moment on paper with the movement and life of the foliage around them.
Using my favourite fountain pen and ink to describe the magic of nature at her best.
This piece will come to you unframed so that you can take advantage of the Bluethumb Framing service to get the look that best suits you.
