Chopped trees and wood splinters dominate the canvas, floating above a background of camouflage.
If a tree gets cut down in a forest with no one to see it, did it really happen? How about an entire forest full of trees? 'On the Chopping Block' is a comment on the logging trade, and how millions of trees are cut down each year, and even though we all know about it, we pretend like the problem doesn't exist- 'out of sight, out of mind'.
No rulers or tape masks are used in my paintings, every line is hand-painted. From far away the image looks like it has been made digitally, yet on closer inspection, the signs of the artist come forward- the buildup of paint, the wobble of a line.
Things like this, that in a digital image would be considered 'mistakes', become the heroes of the piece in my work, bringing the artist's heart and soul into the painting.
