This artwork was inspired by my interest in maps and mapping. I collected posters and other graphic and textual material from a site in the inner west of Sydney. From an initial process of laminating and sanding, I applied paint to simplify and obscure the surface before using a dremel to create a confusion of fine lines. Larger shapes were created to add scale and focal points. These were created by carving into the surface. Like archaeology, this part of the process was open to chance as I couldn't know what lay beneath the surface until it was revealed. In a sense this is a topographic view of a city at a moment in time as depicted by its mass media and social space. The artwork is mounted on a stretcher and ready to hang
