This coffee mill was an ornament in my house growing up. It wasn't until I was drawing it that I learnt that my Grandmother had brought it with her to Australia from Germany, when she migrated almost 60 years ago. I am a great coffee lover (aren't we all?) and I couldn't help but imagine my Grandmother packing this mill as a necessity for her long voyage to a new country. Did she wonder if coffee beans were available in Australia? Well, they were. Because as a young girl, it was my mothers morning chore to grind the coffee for the household.
How things have changed. This artwork gives pause to the change in our culture, especially the coffee culture. How instantly we want our coffee these days...How instantly we want everything.
