Acrylic Paint on canvas

Here, Nita Williamson is painting her mother and grandfather’s country of Pukara and Kaliny-Kalinypa (Honey Grevillia), which flowers in springtime. Her mother, Ruby Tjangawa Williamson (1940 – 2014) is a celebrated Pitjantjatjara artist whose work is held in the National Gallery of Australia.
She says: “There you can find two puli (mountains), where you can look for Kaliny-kalinypa in the trees around it. Nearby, there is kapi (a waterhole). The Kaliny-kalinypa is soaked in water, and makes a sweet drink. Tastes like cordial. Palya.”
