Artwork Description

Inspired by the beautiful legend of an ancient Byzantine icon "Mother of God Iverskaya, which was believed to miraculously cross the sea and reappear in Greece one night. A hermit heard a heavenly voice calling him, he called the monks who fished the icon from the sea, and later built a monastery for it. The icon was believed to be a protector of travellers and seaman. Nowadays, it's in a private collection in Germany. The painting is a finalist in Maritime Art Awards 2016, Melbourne, Vic.
