I was asked by the Friends Art Group Ryde to demonstrate and talk about my approach to watercolour painting.
This painting was started in my studio last year and then continued and finished in the demonstration I was giving.
I like to use objects, fabrics and colours which have personal meaning to me in all my paintings whether it be still life, landscape or portraiture.
I have used the white orchid as my subject; it was given to me by a friend and I love it’s perfect whiteness and interesting petal shapes. The jugs and vases are from my studio collection of props... many have sentimental memories. The patterns of the fabrics too, scarves, weavings and table napkins I find interesting and remind me of exotic places where I have travelled.
I enjoy experimenting with my watercolour paints and in this painting I have used techniques such as spraying, stencilling, masking and layering. The abstract composition and the bright colour combinations work well with all the shapes and patterns.
This painting would enhance a dining room, living room or an office situation.
