There are eleven Kingfishers that are indigenous to Australia. The Sacred Kingfisher has a particularly long tail and inhabits the majority of Australia. The black mask makes makes the male of the species look particularly dramatic compared to the female is duller in colour. It's this feature that let me to use a portrait composition for this work.
