Penelope is based in rural NSW and is represented by the following Sydney Galleries:
The Milk Factory Gallery Bowral, NSW
KAB Gallery Terrigal, NSW
Artshine Industries, Yuga Gallery Glebe.
Gallery 503 Balmain.
I have an extensive background and training in the arts industry, from theatre designing through to concept drawing and book illustration. My original love of texture and colour as well as the natural forms and contours of the landscape have remained a constant throughout my artistic career. My painting style, which I would call 'contemporary expressive', is one that often merges the delineation between drawing and painting with my layering of mixed media to add depth and etched linework to add detail and textural interest. I work largely on MDF cut panels in varying shapes and sizes as I don't see why as artists or viewers we have to limited to the traditional format of angular canvasses, particularly when we don't view the world through angular lenses anyway! I also love the solidity and smoothness of the MDF as it allows me to create painting effects that I cannot achieve as readily on canvas, particularly the etching process I have developed. I also use MDF to create free standing curved artworks which can be viewed on my personal website if you are interested in looking at.
