Description

The "Not To Scale - Mapping Memories in Colour" collection represents the first 12 of 29 locations that Peta has lived. Each piece is a map showing the road and position of the house. The black background is representative of Aphantasia, a condition that Peta has, that means she is unable to visualise.

The smaller shape is the second house Peta lived in, not long after the first. Although she was too young to remember living here her “baby firsts book” states that her favourite 1st birthday present was a blue racing car. It is featured here with bars from her cot. The dark purple symbolises a race track which is continued into the road section, to the left, changing into a contour map. The colours were inspired by the racing car and the purple cushions they had on a wooden couch – typical seventies furniture. The canvas is oriented with North at the top and stencilled on the side is the exact location of the house in the form of latitude and longitude coordinates.
