My painting, depicting a farm fire, explores the connection we perceive between ourselves and the sometimes harsh and threatening natural environment. We may identify with nature as an inseparable part of ourselves with appreciation for the cycles of fire and flood, or see the land simply as a resource with risks to be managed. How we identify with nature is inevitably shaped by our social and cultural experiences. This painting was a finalist in the $50,000 Collie Art Prize in 2018.
