An icon of Melbourne St Kilda. I was late for sunrise, but dark clouds were gathering with the sun still shining on the lemon facade. I wanted to capture the contradiction between the brooding sky and the cheerful building beneath, which seemed almost naively optimistic in the face of the gathering storm. Perhaps a metaphor for how we should all live--embracing hope no matter how dark the times.
Then again, the half open door seems somehow ambiguous, especially given its colour. Is this such an innocent place?
This is one of a print run of 5 only for this photograph (yes, I will never sell it again), on Museo Portfolio Rag archival paper.
