DESCRIPTION

Canova's 'Venus' is the oldest piece of public art in Adelaide. It was unveiled in 1892 and caused a minor scandal at the time due to its nudity. It is a direct copy of the original, which was destroyed in Dresden during WW2. It shows the goddess Venus stepping from a bath and being surprised by something or someone. What or whom is up to the imagination of the gazer.
