Artwork Description

Acrylic Paint on canvas, ready to hang.

Signed with a certificate of authenticity.

This portrait was painted after a visit to the 2018 Archibald Prize. I often paint self portraits questioning the act of what constitutes a self portrait. I guess (without sounding too contrived) one can say I felt an impulse to paint a self portrait upon returning home after the visit. I felt inspired. I hope the portrait captures the way I felt after viewing the art works. As an artist, the term 'emerging' also made me reflect upon what contributes to an artist to become well known and to be indeed part of an exhibition such as the Archibald. I was left to ponder whether luck plays a part or whether it is due largely to networking, who you know, education or a combination of them all.
