A sense of place is one of interpretation, where one finds solace, community, identity and belonging. Often a sense of place can just ‘jump out’ on you as you find your gaze intertwined within a place at a given moment in time. It is transcendental, a moment in time when the spiritual in nature is synchronised with the spiritual self.
The spiritual in art always surfaces in my art practice especially within portraiture and the natural world. I aim to strip away the veneer, the façade and return to the core.
