This portrait explores the relationship between technology and its infiltration into daily life even when engaged in outside activities such as having a coffee. The fact that most conversations these days involve spending some time on ones gadgets (whether it be the phone or ipad) showing an increasing reliance on having to check ones social media, email, news feed etc. This detracts from being in the moment, from finding that moment to re-align oneself, to re centre and enable the brain to switch off for just a few minutes. The sitter in the painting looks out to the viewer- there is a sense of isolation in the gaze.
