This painting describes, in an abstract way, the emotional journey of an artistic practice, evoking imagery of vast distances, odd shorelines, and unknowable mysteries in the distant landscape. It is a fantasy journey, because we do not go anywhere. But it is a real journey also, because we travel incredible distances in our minds, and try to drop over the horizon through our thoughts and dreams.
The painting and the canvas have been distressed by sanding and scratching the surface, and there are imperfections in the surface as a result, which is intended. It adds to the feel of the work, I think. I have also painted the sides of the canvas, so I don't think the work needs framing.
