Artwork Description

Experimenting with the scraper to capture the heat and crisp air out in the summer paddocks around York, WA. Bush fire off in the distance, eating the summer grass and a major part of the state forest out that way. And someone's barn went up.

These lilies have been painted with a palette knife, mainly, to keep them loose and free but still make them recognisable. A small study of these beautiful flowers in oil, where I have included observations about the cut-glass vase they were arranged in, to add a contemporary feel to an otherwise timeless genre. 'Descendants' is a nod to the past, to the many many still life paintings that came before it.
