Construction of the Sydney Opera House was completed in three building stages from 1959 and was opened by the Queen in 1973. With construction taking so long the exposed concrete beams already look well aged by the 1970s. This artwork was inspired by my black and white photography with this scene taken in 1979.

The painting forms part of my grey tone series and I feature colour in the sky, the blue dwarfed by the Opera House white sails, and the people gliding through the interior. The curved edge of the plated glass windows provided interesting light reflection and a spaceship appearance to the Opera House. The curved shape on the walkway has me thinking of time spent watching “Lost In Space” in the 1970s on B&W and then Colour TV.
