"Once again, my work involves our 1850’s warship, HMAS Cerberus, as my muse.
I am drawn to the aesthetic qualities of it’s eroding iron, it’s form, it’s history, and it’s mortality. As a local to the area I have a personal connection with this
old ship.
I was motivated to paint the Cerberus’s cannon porthole for many reasons, one being my interest in the phenomenon of Pareidolia. The still life can be seen as a face by coincidence, and with the extracted cannon included, it is transformed into a strong social commentary.
“The Cerberus erodes into the sea, forgotten. Services rendered.”"
