Although I have used a somewhat muted colour scheme on this small painting, it conveys a great deal of information - it has a story to tell. I spent a lot of time working on the expressions of the young lady and her horse, to try and convey the intimate connection that they share. I like to use contrasts of soft greens and lilacs, with the spray of yellow flowers coming forward, increasing the sense of depth within the picture. I built up a number of paint layers, using heavier impasto to foreground important details. This painting is a piece of impressionism, influenced by my favourites; the Australian impressionists and John Singer Sargent - as well as the Romanticists, with their emphasis on emotional appeal. I hope you enjoy this work. It is being sold unframed, but a nice classic frame will compliment it greatly.
