Old Holland and Williamsburg oils on fine cotton duck mounted to panel.

On a recent trip to Broken Hill, Lightning Ridge and many places in between I discovered several things, two of which I demonstrate here. 1. Abandoned transport. Lightning Ridge in particular has rusting cars and other abandoned vehicles all over the place. It's something you can't help but notice. 2. Those little white rocks. Some areas just have millions of these white rocks just rising out of the ground or in the case of mines, just heaped up.

"Do Not Scrap" combines these two prominent Australian "Outback" features. However the story line to this work is the loco 4502 one of only two still sitting on rail. There is graffiti but also a message... or is it a request from a former engineer or train lover... "Do not scrap" or just a memo sprayed on by management.

Some wind has exposed some rusty old track at the end of the line making for a scene of hopelessness for the old loco. Galvanised sheet replaces glass and handholds are no longer safe. How long will the loco remain before an economic decision is made to scrap 4502

I believe the message was sprayed on in 2004 and the likelihood of these two remaining locos being restored is not high.

This painting has a frame around it which brings the overall size to: 46 x 1.175cm and is ready to hang.
