"The River" was influenced by my recent desire to paint all things nautical. I especially fell in love with working boats because of their practical structure. Cabling, nets, winches, booms. Gas bottles seen secured to cabin roofs and all sorts of ad hoc arrangements.

"The River" was painted in that quiet, reflective part of a river not easily accessed or used by the rest of us.

Overnight a storm has raised river levels, a small tinny has broken loose and drifted to an inaccessible area of the river. How will the owner retrieve it? The mangroves provide a natural barrier to people and create a lush green backdrop to the scene.
