Watercolour on paper
Signed on the front.
For this painting I have been continuing my exploration of layering techniques with watercolour and gouache paint, working with Chinese calligraphy brushes using various paint consistencies from a watery wash to precise intricate opaque line work.
This pair of Red tailed Black Cockatoos are perched on a Casuarina tree over the river. Folklore says that cockatoos signify rain coming and new beginnings.
My style is heavily influenced by Japanese woodblock prints and you can really get a sense of Japonisme coming through in this work. Especially with the inclusion of the Casuarina which has a very Willow, oriental tree vibe about it. My subject, as always is unmistakably Australian and this painting would made an excellent statement piece on the wall of your Australian home or business.
