Artwork Description

This painting is in honour of the Currawong who visits the Weeping Bottlebrush tree outside my house each day at dusk and signals the end of the day with his wonderful song.

My work is heavily inspired by the everyday nature and backyard birds I experience in my Inner City neighbourhood of Newtown. I was talking to my mum (who lives in the UK) the other day and she told me that no birds have visited her bird table this year. How sad is that?! Almost everyone in her area has concreted over their garden so they can have off street parking for multiple cars. Aussie Developers and Planners take note: When you cut down trees, we lose our birds. (Community announcement over, thank you).
