Watercolour on paper
Signed on the front.
Layered watercolour painting of a sweet Pardalote perched on some flowering gum.
My work is very much connected to the place I live and features some of the backyard birds and plants common to my inner city neighbourhood. The street trees are currently blooming with gum blossoms. I love them! I haven't seen a Pardalote in the flesh around here if I'm honest, but I couldn't resist incorporating this beautiful native bird into a painting. His markings are so striking and his colours make me happy.
My works on paper draw their inspiration from traditional Japanese woodblock printing (Ukiyo - e) natural history books and the patterns I find in nature. I enjoy working with Chinese calligraphy brushes, predominantly using expressive line to create my images.
