This vibrant happy painting of budgerigars (parakeets) is inspired by a big umbrella tree growing in my neighbours' garden. In the autumn time the plant produces these incredible deep red seed pods from the top of the tree that look like fireworks. The accompanying plants are common to my area and grow like weeds.
What's not to love about budgerigars? As you can start to gather from my style of painting, I'm really into painting lines. The high contrast black striped markings of the budgerigar make them a real joy to paint. I had a pair of budgies growing up in the UK, where they are sold as exotic pets. They are native to Australia, and fly about like common sparrows in Queensland apparently!
I have used my artists license with the colouring of this pair. I'm a colour addict who is more concerned with combining colours for my own pleasure, than for real life representation. If you are looking to brighten your walls with some colour, this painting is sure to add a daily dose of 'don't worry be happy' to your environment.
