Mr Parkinson was the botanist who assisted Joseph Banks on the Endeavour. Unfortunately the poor man passed away before the end of the voyage, however he left botanical drawings of flowers that had as yet never seen before. Inspired by our native florals I have painted this close up and intimate view of an orange banksia from the local market. The leaves cup the flower in a sensuous wave while the negative space creates an interesting and compelling composition. This is one of a series of Australian native florals.
