Artwork Description

Oil on canvas, stretched and ready to hang.

Signed on the front.

Whalers bay, Antarctica. Whalers Bay, Deception Island was once a large scale Whaling factory in the early 20th century, The island is a caldera and erupted as recently as the 70's, The eruption led to the bay being abandoned allowing the habitat and wildlife to return. I wanted to reflect the experience of visiting the bay, its surreal experience and it's history. Of passing the leopard seal on the volcanic beach, the beauty of the Great southern petral , and the celebration of when nature takes back what we, as humans have tried to plunder.
